Warners offers its high net worth clients a range of private wealth services, including trusts and estates administration, tax planning and asset management, as well as Court of Protection matters. One source says: “I think they’re very strong in this area of work in terms of delivering what they promise. I think they’re very friendly, personable and try to keep things as simple as possible, which is not always easy.
“They come across as a very solid, established firm but one that’s also quite progressive; they’ve been around a long time but they’re not resting on their laurels,” says a source; “they’re certainly committed to the elderly and vulnerable side of this work. They have both a human side and a commercial side at the same time.”
Notable practitioners
Philip Raggett has a “good reputation” for private client work, according to market commentators. His practice sees him acting for high net worth individuals in tax and estate planning matters. Raggett has a particular focus on Capital Gains Tax and can also advise clients on offshore trusts and family business issues.
A new entry in the rankings for 2018, Gail Hall is a well-regarded practitioner, who handles trust and estate administration, Lasting Powers of Attorney, wills and tax and succession planning. “Obviously she’s knowledgeable for a start, but she’s also a very good communicator,” reports an interviewee; “she tries to put things across in as simple a fashion as possible. If we’re in a meeting where technical issues come up, she is quite adept at explaining things in a way that everyone can understand.”
Mary Shaw has a “wonderfully reassuring presence” according to one source, who adds: “She has a warm personality. I’d feel very reassured if she was my solicitor, as though as I was in safe hands.” Shaw’s work involves estate planning for wealthy families and business owners and she can also offer expertise in the areas of trusts, wills and disputed probate.
One client calls Richard Theobald an “expert in wills, trusts and probate” and adds: “Richard is sympathetic and tactful and helped me understand, explaining the options that were available to me.” Another interviewee says: “Richard has been very helpful with informing us of anything we need to know by phone call, email or letter. As for his style, I can only say that I am very happy with the way he has conducted himself.”
