Martin is a partner in the Private Client Department and heads the Court of Protection team. Martin read law at Durham University and qualified in 1991. After working for a specialist personal injury firm in London and firms in East Sussex and Tunbridge Wells, he joined Warners as a partner in 2018.
Martin is a well-known and acknowledged expert in Court of Protection matters. He is recognised as a leading individual by both legal directories, The Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners.
Martin has lectured and written extensively on Court of Protection and elderly client matters. His books include A Practitioner’s Guide to the Court of Protection (Bloomsbury) (author of first three editions and contributor to new 4th edition, 2018); contributor to the Law Society’s Elderly Client Handbook (joint editor of 3rd edition and contributor to 4th and 5th editions); contributor to Finance & Law for the Older Client (LexisNexis), and Elderly Clients: A Precedent Manual (Jordans, 2016); annual contributor since 2008 to Court of Protection Practice (LexisNexis, 2020). He has lectured extensively on the Mental Capacity Act and Court of Protection practice procedure for Central Law Training, Jordans, LexisNexis, the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP) and Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE).
