Mary acts as a professional trustee for numerous trusts and is also a court-appointed administrator in a number of contentious estates and trusts.
Mary prepares Wills and powers of attorney and advises on the administration of estates, powers of attorney and deputyship orders.
She specialises in working with families, in particular, helping them manage their assets held in trust. She has kept up her knowledge of family law in order to assist clients in managing trusts resulting from divorce or Children Act proceedings.
Mary has been a partner at Warners since 2013 and before that was a partner/director in solicitors’ firms in London and Kent since the 1980s. Mary is Team Leader of the Private Client Team she supervises the lawyers within that team.
She lives with her husband Rory Silkin in Staplehurst and is clerk to the JS Newlyn Charitable Trust. Mary is happy to meet with clients living in Staplehurst in their homes outside normal office hours.
Mary is a member of the management committee of the Vincent Housing Association in Notting Hill and a member of the Reform Club. Mary is a trustee of the Alice Roughton Foundation, a charity that makes grants to organisations supporting homelessness.
Mary read Philosophy and Law at New Hall (Murray Edwards) Cambridge in the late 1970s and, in 2011, completed a Masters degree at Heythrop College London University in Ethics. She is interested in social justice and political ethics.
