Over the weekend of 14 – 15 July, a team from Warners and Handelsbanken will take on the 3 Peaks Challenge, in an attempt to climb the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours; all monies raised will be donated to West Kent Mind.
The team, 10 hikers and 2 support drivers, will travel to Fort William and start their challenge with Ben Nevis, followed by Scafell Pike, and finally Snowdon.
An incredibly demanding challenge, with huge amounts of training, which the team have thoroughly embraced. Tackling one training walk each month, the team kick started with an 8 mile walk on the Ashdown Forest and are gradually building pace to reach a planned 26 mile hike on the South Downs.
Team member Richard Theobald said: “Taking on this challenge is both really exciting and really daunting! We are real mixed bag of ability some members of the team are very experienced hikers and some are complete novices. It’s going to take a lot of motivation and discipline to make sure we all attend the training walks especially as the weather starts to get colder.”
Team member Ellie Norman added: “We are using this challenge to raise money and awareness for West Kent Mind. We all firmly believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. With our busy modern lives it can often get ignored or overlooked. WKM do an amazing amount of good work with adults who have encountered mental health issues and educate local children on how to deal with and recognise their emotions.”
The team have set themselves an ambitious target of £10,000 believing the cause to be wholly worthy of the challenge.
